Mayor Greg Stanton today commended U.S. Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake for their votes to support federal legislation that bans workplace discrimination against gay, lesbian and transgender employees.
“Today is a great day for the country, and for Arizona, and our two senators were on the right side of history,” said Stanton. “Discrimination for any reason is wrong. Today’s vote reflects our values and our commitment to respecting diversity.”
McCain and Flake today were among 64 senators who voted to pass the Employment Nondiscrimination Act, also known as ENDA. The legislation must now gain approval from the U.S. House of Representatives before it can be enacted by President Barack Obama.
