Dec. 31, 2013

Councilman Nowakowski Headshot with CaptionAs the New Year approaches, Councilman Michael Nowakowski wants to remind residents that using consumer fireworks is prohibited in Phoenix. Additionally, it is illegal to sell fireworks to those under the age of 16.

The use of fireworks in Phoenix is now a Class 1 Misdemeanor punishable by up to $2,500 and up to six months in jail. The use of some novelty items is allowed, including snappers, snap caps, glow worms, snakes, party poppers, toy smoke devices and sparklers. More information can be found on the Fire Department's Fireworks webpage.

“Family celebrations can turn to tragedy in an instant,” said Councilman Nowakowski, chairman of the Public Safety and Veterans Subcommittee. “I urge caution when using any of the legal novelty items – such as a sparkler – especially around children, and the illegal fireworks are simply not worth the risk to your family or your wallet.”
