Phoenix Planned Major Street Restrictions - Updated April 11

Orange Caution Sign 2Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.  

New Restrictions

OSBORN ROAD – 20TH TO 22ND STREETS REVISED

Osborn Road between 20th and 22nd streets is scheduled to be restricted to one lane in each direction beginning on Friday, April 11, until May, for installation of major storm drains and manholes. Flagman stations will be set up on Osborn Road to facilitate traffic daily between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

This is a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department storm drain and roadway improvement project.

Police officers will be present to assist with traffic control.

Business and local access will be maintained.

Drivers are highly encouraged to use an alternate route or allow for additional travel time during this period.

Special Events


MARCH FOR BABIES – 7:30 A.M. SATURDAY, APRIL 12

This event will start and finish at 16th Avenue and Adams Street.

The following streets will be closed 6 a.m. Saturday, April 12:

  • Washington Street – First to 19th avenues
  • 17th Avenue – Adams to Jefferson streets
  • Jefferson Street – First to 19th avenues
  • Third Avenue – Jefferson to Washington streets

Police officers will be provided to assist with traffic control.

All streets will be open to normal traffic by 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12.

Drivers are highly encouraged to use an alternate route or allow for additional travel time during this period.
 

ARCADIA FAMILY FUN RUN – 8 – 10 A.M. SUNDAY, APRIL 13

This event will take place in the neighborhood bounded by Arcadia Drive to 46th Street and Lafayette Boulevard to Exeter Boulevard.

These streets are scheduled to be closed to stage this event 7 - 10 a.m. Sunday, April 13.

All streets and driveways will be closed along the route as the run approaches and reopened as it proceeds. Residential and business access will be maintained during this event.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

Drivers are highly encouraged to use an alternate route or allow for additional travel time during this period.


VAISAKHI PROCESSION AND CELEBRATION – SUNDAY, APRIL 13

This religious procession will take place in the neighborhood bounded by Oak to Sheridan streets and Eighth to 12th streets.

Eighth, 12th, Oak, and Sheridan streets will be closed to through traffic to stage this event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

All other local streets and driveways will be closed along the route as the procession proceeds. All streets will be open to normal traffic by 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

Local and business access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

Drivers are highly encouraged to use an alternate route or allow for additional travel time during this period.


REAL GIFT FOUNDATION RIDE FOR THE CHILDREN – SATURDAY, APRIL 19

The following streets will be restricted on Saturday, April 19 for a charity bicycle ride event:

  • Southbound and northbound 56th Street from Shea to Mayo boulevards. One lane will be maintained in each direction of traffic.
  • Eastbound Mayo Boulevard from 56th to 68th streets. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
  • 56th Street will be closed 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. from Shea Boulevard to Mountain View Drive.

Local access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

All streets will be open to normal traffic by 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.

 

Reopening After Restrictions

INDIAN SCHOOL ROAD – 40TH TO 48TH STREETS

Indian School Road between 40th and 48th streets is now open to normal traffic following a city of Phoenix, Street Transportation Department roadway and sidewalk improvement project.

Continuing Restrictions

Broadway Road “Avenida Rio Salado” – Central to 15th avenues is partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide "connectivity" to the west valley, with completion scheduled for May. During the “Avenida Rio Salado” project, Broadway Road will be restricted between Seventh Street and 51st Avenue. 

Bethany Home Road – 31st to 35th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide a water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for May.

Greenway Parkway between Seventh and 19th avenues, full closure due to the demolition and construction of the Cave Creek Wash Bridge located on Greenway Parkway between 14th Avenue and 17th Drive, with completion scheduled for September.

Jefferson Street – 1st to 3rd avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department project for storm drain work, with completion scheduled for April. 

Lower Buckeye Road – 43rd to 51st avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening Lower Buckeye Road, with completion scheduled for December.

Peoria Avenue – 24th and 25th avenues at the Cave Creek Wash Bridge, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix bridge rehabilitation project, with completion scheduled for April.

Van Buren and 28th Street intersection, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project for a storm water main replacement, with completion scheduled for August.

3rd Avenue- Madison to Jefferson Streets, closed due to storm drain work for a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department project, with completion scheduled for April.

7th Street – Roosevelt Street to Thomas Road, partial restriction due to an Arizona Public Service infrastructure improvement project, completion scheduled for May.

19th Avenue – Grand Avenue and McDowell Road intersection, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue). The project will include pavement improvements, road construction, and new right turn lanes and sidewalks at various locations. New lighting, landscape, screen walls, and fencing will be included in the project, with completion scheduled for April. 19th Avenue – Monte Vista Road to Culver Street, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue), with completion scheduled for April.

19th Avenue – Wood Drive and Cactus Road, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas 12” natural gas line replacement project, scheduled completion for April.

24th Street – McDowell to Thomas roads, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation infrastructure improvement project, completion scheduled for May.

35th Avenue – Bethany Home Road to Missouri Avenue, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for May.

Northwest light rail extension - Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction. 19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road to Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation.
