Dr. Tamir Moshuarrafa, a valley plastic surgeon, has been a friend of the Phoenix Police Department and the victims of sex trafficking since 2009.  Dr. Moshuarrafa has taken a personal interest in the victimization of sex trafficking victims and has donated countless hours to many victims providing no cost plastic surgery to remove the permanent reminders of their abuse (tattoos and scars).  These tattoos, commonly referred to as “brands” in the culture of sex trafficking, mark the victim as the property of their trafficker or pimp and are prominently placed on the face, neck, mid thigh or upper chest to make it readily apparent to whom the victim “belongs”.  The scars they carry come from the violent physical abuse they suffer at the hands of their traffickers as well as the “Johns” who victimize them over and over again.

In order to move forward towards a place of healing and to attempt to recover their dignity and their life, removing the physical reminders of their painful past is crucial.  It is here that Dr. Moshuarrafa provides his time and skills to serve those who otherwise would never have this opportunity.  For this reason, we would like to recognize Dr. Moshuarrafa for his service to the community and to the department.
