Setup or Close Water or Sewer Account

Below is a listing of information about our account setup and closure services along with information regarding home foreclosures. However, if you still need further assistance or have questions, please contact us, or visit one of our office locations.

Setting up a new account*

To set up a new water or sewer service account, contact the Water Services Customer Services Division, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding city holidays, at 602-262-6251. The best days to reach Customer Services are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You can also visit a Water Services' Pay Station during normal business hours. Requirements to set up a new account

Whether you call or visit in person, you will need to provide your name, service address, billing address (if different), and your daytime phone number. A copy of your ownership papers or lease may be required for documentation purposes. An Account Activation Fee of $33 + tax will be charged for the set up of all accounts. An additional deposit may be required based on your previous payment history with the City of Phoenix Water Services Department.

*When opening an account, please give us notice of at least one working day before you want the service activated.

Establishing a Sewer Connection (physical tap)

Establishing a sewer connection is different from setting up an account. This involves the process of attaching a physical pipe from your home or business to the city sewer system. To get a sewer service connected to the City of Phoenix Wastewater Collection System, please contact the Planning and Development Department at 602-262-7811.

Establishing a Water Connection (physical tap)

Establishing a water connection is different from setting up an account. This involves the process of attaching a physical pipe from your water meter to the city water system. To get a water service connected to the City of Phoenix water system, please contact the Planning and Development Department at 602-262-7811.

Closing an Existing Account

To close a current water or sewer account, you will need to contact the Water Services' Customer Services Division, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding city holidays, at 602-262-6251. The best days to reach Customer Services are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You can also visit a customer service center/pay station during normal business hours. *When closing an account, please arrange it at least one working day before you want the service discontinued.

Temporary Water Turn-offs

If a customer needs to turn off the water at the meter box, it must be done by a city employee only to prevent damaging the meter and the meter valve. To get your water turned off temporarily (then turned back on), please contact the Water Services Customer Services Division, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding city holidays, at 602-262-6251 The best days to reach Customer Services are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. 

Emergency Water Turn-offs

In the case when the water must be turned off at the meter box quickly due to an emergency plumbing repair, you can contact the Water Services Department at 602-261-8000.

Realtor Assistance Regarding Property Foreclosures

Water Customer Services has dedicated representatives to assist Realtors who need to sign up for water services at foreclosed properties. To avoid unauthorized water use charges, Realtors need to call 602-262-6251 and ask to speak to a Foreclosure Representative as soon as they have a property for listing. Our Foreclosure Representatives can assist with turning water services on or off if water is not needed at a property.

Property Owners Assistance Regarding Foreclosures

Behind on your water bill? Have you fallen behind or anticipate falling behind in paying your water bill? Our Credit Counselors would like to help by providing assistance. Our counselors will help identify if you are in need of payment arrangements or payment assistance due to loss of income or catastrophic financial crisis, including foreclosure. 

If it is determined payment arrangements are necessary, our counselors can set up a payment plan for you. Our counselors will monitor each arrangement for compliance and to help you stay on track. For further assistance, please call 602-262-6251 and ask to speak to a Credit Counselor.
