    Overview

The Law Department comprises two sections: the City Attorney’s Office and the City Prosecutor’s Office. Our mission is to provide effective legal services to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and city departments and to impartially seek justice in the prosecution of criminal offenses. The Law Department is committed to ensuring a diverse workforce to reflect the community it serves.

    City Attorney's Office

The City Attorney’s Office (Civil Division) represents the City in civil lawsuits and provides advice to the Mayor, City Council, City management, and each of the City departments. The City Attorney’s office reviews all resolutions, ordinances (city laws), and contracts.

    City Prosecutor's Office

The City Prosecutor’s Office (Criminal Division) is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor offenses, handling approximately 28,000 cases per year. The Prosecutor’s Office also provides information and resources for crime victims and witnesses, those facing neighborhood issues, and information on our diversion programs, specialty courts, and more.
