What you'll do​

The Public Art Collections Manager Associate will work directly with the Phoenix Arts and Culture Collections Manager throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. The student worker can expect to expand their knowlege of working within a local arts agency, specificallly in the area of public art and arts database management. You can expect to work in-person at Phoenix City Hall during agreed upon business hours of Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Audit the public art electronic database for accuracy and completeness.
  • Accurately input data into cloud-based collections management database.
  • Produce written docuementation in English with clearly organized thoughts, using proper sentence contruction, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Use solid planning and organization skills with close attention to detail, accuracy, procedure, and deadlines.
  • Use of Microsoft 365 suites to produce documents, specifically Excel, and Word.
  • Work Cooperatively with City employees, ourside agencies, contractors, and content mangement systems.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
  • Demonstrate superior, seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
  • Maintains regularly and reliable attendance.

Desired qualifications

  • knowlege of arts and culture, inlcuding public art and arts data management.
  • knowlege of the principles of electronic file organization.
  • knowlege of evaluation and assessment.
  • knowlege of common art materials and terms.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Be a current or recently graduated undergraduate student attending an institution of higher education.
  • Be at least 18 years old.

Doug Oland, Collections Manager​​

Doug Oland is the Public Art Collections manager for the City of Phoenix whose responsibilities include maintaining the public art of the City in good condition.

Doug has worked previously in the private and commercial art installation industry and Phoenix Art Museum.

Doug has also been a practicing fine artist for 25 years showing in the Phoenix area and remains involved in the local arts community.​

The Phoenix ArtCorps​​

The Phoenix ArtCorps is a student employment program from the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture  that seeks to provide students with​ the comprehensive skills, mentorship, and experience ​they need to launch their arts and culture careers. Over the course of the 2024-2025 academic cycle​, each student works 400 hours for $17/hr (around 15 to 20 hours a week), with additional stipends and professional development opportunities. To apply, students must be current or recently graduated undergraduate students at a community college, university, or other institution of higher education based in Phoenix (or live in Phoenix themselves). Applicants must be at least 18 years old. There are no other enrollment requirements. Students do not need to be majoring in the arts or similar fields to apply.
