Great Arizona Puppet Theater was founded in 1983 as a touring company. In 1988 we opened a venue for public performances. In 1996 we bought a historic central Phoenix building to be our permanent home. It is the largest puppet theater in the western United States, and includes a museum, library, workshops, and gift shop. Shows are presented year round at the theater, and puppeteers tour to libraries, child cares and schools. During the pandemic we presented shows outdoors and virtually.
About this Student Worker Position
Great Arizona Puppet Theater is a professional puppet theater. The theater is open to the public five days a week year-round, with shows for children and adults. Our primary audience is Maricopa County residents, Phoenix-based schools, child cares, and families. We tour throughout the state, including rural and underserved communities.
It has always been part of my passion and mission to create space and platforms for young learners beginning or exploring professional options in the arts and culture sector. I thrive and challenge myself to develop and execute a learning plan that engages and exposes the person to not only the organization but how the organization works and fits within the larger context of the community. The work will engage, support, and teach the fundamentals of sustaining and growing a 40-year art non-profit.
