Police Volunteer Opportunities

Citizens Offering Police Support (COPS)

​The Phoenix Police Department offers the COPS program so that citizen volunteers or college interns can support the department from within in a non-enforcement capacity.

COPS has volunteer assignments in over 40 different specialty details in four different categories:

• Investigations
• Traffic
• Administration
• Crime Lab (with a BS in Biology or Science)

While some COPS Volunteers donate up to 40 hours per week, the minimum requirement is 4 hours per week to support the department. Donated time must be Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Steps to join the COPS program:

• Follow the application instructions
• Turn in the application either by mail or in person
• The Employment Services background investigator calls you to schedule an interview
• Polygraph exam
• Reference check
• Drug screen

The approval process can take an average of three months to complete.
