The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday is a perfect opportunity for Americans to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community. Jan. 13: Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast
Residents are invited to celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday at the MLK Awards Breakfast "Standing Up for Justice" at 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the Phoenix Convention Center, 100 N. Third St., North Ballroom. The event will honor the winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Living the Dream Awards and Calvin C. Goode Lifetime Achievement Award. The event is sponsored by the Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee and supported by the Phoenix Human Relations Commission. Cost is $100 per person. Jan. 14: Community Resource & Information Fair (FREE)
Noon to 3 p.m. at the Broadway Heritage Neigborhood Resource Center, 2405 E. Broadway Rd.
MLK Day of Service Community Resource and Information Fair is an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. This free event will provide the community with valuable health, education and employment information, including:
● Haircuts for kids under 12 yrs. old from Master Barbers Stevie G and Cam of Salon 24
● Non-invasive health screenings and information from Mountain Park Health Care Center
● Financial information from Arizona Federal Credit Union
● CPR demonstrations

Jan 16: Sierra Club MLK Day Habitat Restoration
Join us for the 2017 service project on the Rio Salado! Projects may include tree planting, clean up and removal of invasive plants along the river. This is a family oriented event so bring them out and share in the legacy of Dr. King by serving with your community. We will gather for sign-in, commencement and instructions -from 8am to 8:45am. Coffee and light breakfast provided. Outdoor Afro and Sierra Club waivers will be provided at the event. (Minors under 18 must have their waivers signed by a parent or guardian to participate). Event should last about 3-4 hours. Bring a reusable water bottle with you. Please refrain from bringing plastic water bottles. We'll provide water to refill your water containers. You should wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals), long pants, and a hat. We suggest sun screen and a pair of work gloves. Spare gloves will be provided if needed. 8 a.m. - Noon.

Jan. 18: MLK March & Festival
Join us for the 2017 MLK March & Festival on Monday, January 16. Depart at 9:00am from Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, S 15th Street & E Jefferson Street. Assemble at 8:30 AM and March begins at 9:00 AM. March is approximately 2 miles long. The MLK Festival will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Hance Park, 1202 N 3rd Street, Phoenix.
