Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

The City of Phoenix Police Department employs Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. CPTED principles act as a design tool that combines physical design with the land use to influence personal behavior while reducing crime opportunities.

CPTED has proven methods that increase the responsible, positive use of property while decreasing the likelihood of criminal behavior. Securing your property can be as simple as altering a few designs on your property. By implementing principles of CPTED, you can rest assured that your business and customers will be less likely to experience crime

An introduction to CPTED principles and recommendations for specific property types are available at www.phoenix.gov/citymanager/CPTED.
