Disciplinary Review Board (DRB)

Purpose​

The purpose of the DRB is to make recommendations to the Police Chief for the appropriate level of discipline for sustained violations of City or Police Department policies.

Board Composition

1 Chairperson (member of the Police Executive Staff), 2 Police Commanders, 2 Employee Peer Members, 2 Community Members

Community Member Criteria

Must be a Phoenix resident (or an executive/owner of a Phoenix-based company or nonprofit)

Must be at least 21 years of age

Must complete a criminal background check

Community Member Disqualifiers

Includes but is not limited to:

  • Current City of Phoenix employees and their immediate relatives, including but not limited to an employee's spouse, child, child's child, parent, grandparent, brother or sister of the whole or half blood and their spouses and the parent, brother, sister or child of a spouse

  • Current elected officials

  • Retired Phoenix Police Department employees

  • City of Phoenix contractors

  • Civilian and sworn employees of public safety agencies, including other police departments and correctional facilities

  • Felony conviction(s)

  • Active probation for a criminal offense​

Term

Three (3) Years

Can apply for rea​ppointment at end of term

Applications for participation are subject to review and approval by the Phoenix Police Department​

Training

Mandatory attendance at an orientation session

Time Commitment

Board reviews take place monthly during weekday business hours and the Department draws participants for individual cases from a pool of DRB panelists. Review and participation time commitment varies. Panelists should anticipate committing a minimum of two hours per case.
