Phoenix artist Mary Shindell was commissioned to design a terrazzo floor for the Adam Diaz Senior Center, formerly known as the Westside Senior Center. The design is inspired by the Sonoran Desert and the details found in plants native to the area. Shindell's design acknowledges the importance of lines and space allowing visitors to navigate their way through the Center easily, using lines representing the barbs of a saguaro cactus and buds as guides. The floor comprises epoxy and recycled glass, allowing a slight shimmer of light to pass through as visitors walk over the design.
