Laurie Lundquist designed streetscape enhancements for 48th Street at Brill Street, near the Brunson-Lee Elementary School. She improved the sidewalk by adding curved seating walls, which help to keep students safe from traffic as they wait to cross 48th Street. Wishing to reinforce the connection between the neighborhood and the surrounding mountains, landmarks and canals, Lundquist selected rock as red as the Papago Buttes and Camelback Mountain to build playful curved walls at the crosswalk - the walls also pick up on the stonework that surrounds nearby Tovrea castle. The curved sidewalks contain a series of sandblasted images that use a version of the children's game "I SPY" or "YO MIRO" to prompt pedestrians to take note of the beautiful mountains, canals and other landmarks within their view.
