Ruffner’s entry sculpture doubles as a shade ramada for student play and performance. It is built with brightly-colored steel cut-outs, representing subjects from the school curriculum. In addition to the sculptural ramada, the project includes a colonnade a patio, a drinking fountain and a ceramic tile map of Arizona. According to the artist, “the oasis acknowledges regional topography, architecture, lifestyle and environment. It provides an identity for the school, and an invitation to students, faculty, staff and neighbors to play, learn, and dream."
