Yang Chyi Lee 's provides shaded rest areas for the City of Phoenix's Reach 11 Sports Complex, the largest soccer complex of its kind in Arizona, and one of the largest in the western United States. With 18 regulation-size soccer fields, it hosts regional, national and international soccer, field hockey and rugby tournaments. The sculptural shade structures are located at two sites near soccer fields and offer spectators and athletes a comfortable place to escape the sun. The structures range in height from 12- to 14 feet and are 25 feet wide. To develop the design, the artist and design team conducted extensive research on the best materials for the Arizona climate.
