The artist team of Maria Salenger & Jones Studio (AZ) collaborated with landscape architects Waibel & Associates (AZ) to improve bus stops at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road. The artist designed enhancements included two bus shelters (north and south bound stops at 16th Street), benches, trash receptacles and landscape improvements.
The patterned design of the bus shelters and amenities was inspired by the mid-century modem design patterns that are prevalent in many buildings throughout the surrounding neighborhood. This shade project is part of an ongoing series of public art projects to add artist designed shade to public spaces in support of the City's goals of reducing the urban heat island effect and making our desert city more walkable and comfortable
