​“Sky Looms," is a major Phoenix public art project at the Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant that provides a band of 780 24"x24" colorful panels that are securely attached to the plant's 2,600' south facing wall.

Artist John Runnels was inspired by desert rainbows and the beautiful beadwork made by Native American artisans to create this work.

The artist worked with, landscape architect, Janet Waible to design a colorful landscape using low water use desert plants along the base of the wall, adjacent to the sidewalk.

The project replaces the existing bus shelter with durable perforated metal panels that contain cut-outs of water-related words. The words were selected through workshops the artist held with Art and English students at neighboring Cortez High School. The shelters were finished with a durable blue powdercoat.

This public art project was built with percent-for-art funds from the Phoenix Water Improvement Program.
