Alquist's patio terrazzo features a spiral pathway of ultramarine blue disks winding inward on a yellow ochre field. “The disks get smaller as they wind towards the center, implying a compression of time and energy," said Alquist. The spiral is an ancient symbol often seen in Native American petroglyphs throughout the Southwest. For visitors at night, he created a light projection of a 22' by 9' mesquite leaf, which appears on the pavement at the entrance when the library is open.
