About this organization

Great Arizona Puppet Theater INC

Great Arizona Puppet Theater was founded in 1983 as a touring company. In 1988 we opened a venue for public performances. In 1996 we bought a historic central Phoenix building to be our permanent home. It is the largest puppet theater in the western United States, and includes a museum, library, workshops, and gift shop. Shows are presented year round at the theater, and puppeteers tour to libraries, child cares and schools. During the pandemic we presented shows outdoors and virtually.

The mission of the Great Arizona Puppet Theater is to advance and promote the Art of Puppetry; to celebrate the great State of Arizona's heritage, cultures and ecology; to educate children and families through Puppetry; and to enhance Arizona's cultural climate.
