Meetings

The Phoenix Human Relations Commission meets monthly on the third Tuesdays of the month. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. located in the Phoenix Fire Administration, 2nd Floor, Great Room, 150 S. 12th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85034. The commission is staffed by the Equal Opportunity Department. All meetings are open to the public. The commission invites interested persons to join in working on its activities and projects.  

Membership 

The Phoenix Human Relations Commission is made up of 17 volunteer citizens appointed by the mayor and City Council. It advises the City Council on human relations issues and assists in implementing the city's policy against discrimination. The commission operates or supports various programs designed to promote positive intergroup relations.

   Call for Nominations

Celebrating the 39th Annual Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Living the Dream Award, Calvin C. Goode Lifetime       Achievement Award, & the AZ MLK Corporate Partner Award.

The City of Phoenix Equal Opportunity Department and the Phoenix Human Relations Commission, in collaboration with the Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, and the Arizona OIC are accepting nominations for the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Living the Dream Award, Calvin C. Goode Lifetime Achievement Award and the AZ MLK Corporate Award.

The Calvin C. Goode Lifetime Achievement Award, named after 22-year Phoenix City Councilman Calvin C. Goode, recognizing an individual who has made Phoenix a better place to live by promoting social and economic justice and civil rights. 

The MLK Living the Dream Award will honor individuals who embody the ideals of the late Dr. King through a personal commitment to human relations and justice. 

The AZ MLK Corporate Award recognizes a business or organization that has demonstrated exceptional achievement and commitment to promoting and practicing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) for Phoenix residents. 

The selected honorees will be celebrated at the 39th Annual Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Breakfast, Friday, January 17, 2025. For more info including sponsorships and event tickets contact Dalyn Blue-McLaurin at dalyn@azoic.org or azmlk.org
