The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. The City of Phoenix HCV program provides housing for more than 7,000 households in Phoenix. When a family wishes to receive assistance, the family must submit an application when the Waiting List lottery is open.
The Phoenix HCV program Waiting List is currently closed. The City of Phoenix will provide notice through a wide variety of sources when it reopens to advertise the opportunity to join the Waiting List.
For current HCV participants, when searching for and selecting a unit in the private market, consider what will meet your and your family's needs. Look for available rental housing using a variety of outlets such as housingsearch.az.gov, the local newspaper, online rental sites, and other community outlets, including neighbors and friends.
