Phoenix Water Services Goes the Extra Mile for a Hero!

January 14, 2020 3:04 PM

It’s not every day this Phoenix Water Services crew gets the opportunity to meet a hero like World War II veteran Salvador Leon. Ninety-four-year-old Leon lost his keys and military ID tags, while dining at his favorite restaurant with his family. He went into the restroom with his keys, but when he returned to his table, they were gone. The Leons reached out to the City of Phoenix, in hopes of a miracle. A chance call to the City’s Streets Department put the Leons in contact with the Water Services Department, where crews worked diligently to recover the keys and military ID tags. Using a vactor truck, crews lowered a basket into the sewer line and retrieved them. An important reminder of his service to our country, and a connection to his late brothers, also World War II veterans, Leon was thrilled to have his military ID tags back where they belong.
