Councilwoman Debra Stark News Release: Phoenix Approves Sustainable Water Solution for Moon Valley Golf Courses

January 31, 2018 2:00 PM
The Phoenix City Council has approved a development agreement with the Moon Valley Country Club and Pointe Tapatio Lookout Mountain Golf Courses to construct a non-potable water supply pipeline. The pipeline, set to begin construction in early 2018, will provide these golf courses with non-potable or un-treated water for irrigation purposes. The non-potable water delivery provides a sustainable and affordable solution that will keep these Moon Valley points of pride open for business.

"I am thrilled that the Phoenix City Council voted unanimously to approve this important item for the Moon Valley community," said Phoenix District 3 City Councilwoman Debra Stark. "This is a vital step in working to get golf courses off of utilizing drinking water for maintenance, and to ensure that we preserve this truly special Phoenix neighborhood."

"I am grateful for the unique public/private partnership between Moon Valley Country Club, Pointe Tapatio and the city of Phoenix which will provide a sustainable water supply for the greater Moon Valley community," said former Phoenix District 3 Councilman and current Maricopa County District 3 Supervisor Bill Gates. "I appreciated the opportunity to bring the partners together while on the City Council and thank Councilwoman Stark for shepherding this partnership to a successful conclusion."

"Moon Valley Country Club, and its owner/operator C-Bons International Golf Group, are proud to be a partner with the city of Phoenix, Pointe Tapatio, and the Moon Valley neighborhood on this important project to provide long term non-potable water to the city's Cave Creek Course, Moon Valley Country Club, and the Pointe Lookout Mt. Course," said Randy Jones, president of C-Bons International Golf Group, Inc. "We appreciate the hard work of Councilwoman Stark, Supervisor Gates, and the entire city team. We are committed to the long term success of Moon Valley CC and the Moon Valley neighborhood."

"We are thrilled to participate in this joint effort to bring non-potable water to our golf courses and preserve valuable resources," said Ron Simon, general manager of the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort. "This initiative has been a significant focus for Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort for many years and we are thankful to the City of Phoenix and Moon Valley Country Club for their tremendous commitment and support. We are proud to see this project come to fruition as a result of this collaborative effort that aligns with Hilton's global commitment towards water stewardship and corporate responsibility."

"This is a great example of how getting involved in our neighborhood with our local government partners benefits our community," said Bret Aldieri, president of the Moon Valley Neighborhood Association. "The water solution will benefit all the residents of Moon Valley; thank you to Bill and Deb for their hard work!"

This new non-potable water pipeline will also provide a back-up source of water supply to the City's Cave Creek Golf Course.

"I want to extend a huge thank you to former Phoenix District 3 Councilman and current Maricopa County District 3 Supervisor Bill Gates, my Phoenix City Council colleagues, Phoenix city staff and the residents and representatives from the Moon Valley Neighborhood Association, Moon Valley Country Club and the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs for the countless hours that they have spent working towards this successful outcome," Councilwoman Stark added.
