The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and Phoenix City Councilwoman Ann O'Brien have partnered to build a brand-new playground at Westown Park featuring a fun space with childhood development benefits.
“It's a beautiful playground with a lime green color scheme, two play structures and two independent play spaces for kids of various age ranges," says District 1 Councilwoman Ann O'Brien. “I appreciate everyone who worked to make this beautiful playground a reality for Phoenix families to enjoy."
The large play structure is designed for kids ages 5-12 featuring integrated shade as well as 20 activities including nets, slides, and climbers. These activities improve balance and flexibility, strategic thinking and promote physical development.
The small structure, created for children ages 2-3 offers 14 activities to help them develop hand-eye coordination, tactile, visual and auditory sensory skills, as well as social and emotional skills. It has a variety of puzzles, a magnet stack, ladder rail disks, and more.
The two independent play spaces offer spinning motions for one or more kids. These structures promote core body strength, coordination, and providing children with better depth perception and balance.
“The new playground is much more than an entertaining space for Phoenix youth. It is space where children can develop a range of physical, mental and social benefits. We are thankful for the Phoenix Parks and Preserve Initiative Program funding to help provide them with a new play area," says City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Director Cynthia Aguilar.
The City is welcoming local media to the ribbon cutting event to help spread the word to Phoenix residents that the Westown Park Playground is open and ready for use!
