Phoenix Fire Department host its annual Thanksgiving safety media event. Phoenix firefighters and members from the Fire Prevention Division showcase do and don’ts; including how to fry a turkey and offer additional safety information regarding the Thanksgiving holiday. Phoenix City Councilwoman Ann O’Brien will join the Phoenix Fire Department to share safety tips for the community.
Additionally, members from Southwest Gas and Dr. Kevin Foster, the Director of the Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health in Phoenix will join the Phoenix Fire Department to talk about natural gas safety precautions and the seriousness of burn injuries.
The Phoenix Fire Department strongly encourages homeowners to check their smoke detectors and ensure they are properly functioning ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, for each year from 2017 to 2019 an estimated average of 2,300 residential building fires were reported to fire departments in the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day. ​​
