Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport hosted a Farewell to Terminal 2 event on Tuesday, February 4. The event commemorated the Terminal which will close as the modernization of Terminal 3 is complete.
Terminal 2 opened in 1962, and it was Phoenix’s gateway to the Jet Age. With 19 gates and 330,000 square feet of space, it was touted as one of the most modern facilities of its time. The Terminal also featured a large mural in the lobby titled “The Phoenix.” This mixed-media mural, consisting of 52 different materials and created by artist Paul Coze remains today. The mural will be removed from the Terminal and relocated to the Rental Car Center in 2021
