PolicePolice Phoenix Police Educating Businesses on Local, State Closure Order March 23, 2020 4:30 PM Local, State and Federal leaders are declaring a public health emergency in the face of COVID-19, and are issuing instruction to businesses to slow the spread of the virus. Last week, both Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey called for bars, movie theaters, and indoor gyms and fitness clubs be closed to the public until further notice. On-site dining at restaurants is also prohibited, but restaurants can offer food for drive-thru, delivery, or pickup. Phoenix Police officers will be providing educational material to businesses that are not following the executive order from the Governor. If you see an establishment open or violating the gathering restrictions, report it to police at 602-262-6151 or online at phoenix.gov/police/policereport. These directives from Gov. Ducey do not impact cafeterias at nursing homes, hospitals, and similar facilities, nor do they impact soup kitchens that provide meals to the needy. These places may continue normal operation while taking precautions to ensure social distancing and appropriate hygiene according to federal CDC standards. The order also does not apply to families or friends who still choose to get together privately, however we remind you the CDC has advised against any groups larger than 10 people. As a reminder, other effective ways to slow the spread of COVID-19 include staying home if you feel sick, washing hands, disinfecting surfaces, and avoiding touching your face.
