Citizens and Police Team up to Save Dog in Canal

March 24, 2020 8:07 AM

A dog in trouble got a helping paw from Phoenix Police, thanks to several concerned citizens, who called 911 to report the dog in distress.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, several people called 9-1-1 to report a dog stuck in a canal.  The dog was swimming in the canal and was unable to scale up the concrete sides to get out.

Several Phoenix Police officers responded to the call for help, and located the dog.  Officer Christopher Muniz was able to use one of the built in safety ladders to climb down and call the dog to him.  Officer Muniz reassured the scared dog, and coaxed it to swim to him.  The officer was able to secure a rope around the dog, and safely pull it from the canal.

The dog was taken to a local animal hospital to be checked out.  The dog was uninjured thanks the people who took time out of their day to call and get help for this dog in need.

The dog was eventually taken to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, and was quickly adopted.

This is another great example of the things Phoenix Police are called to help with on a daily basis.
