The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on June 2, 2024.

This incident began in the area of 13th Street and Palm Lane when Phoenix police officers responded to a call of a subject with a gun in the area. The 911 caller told the operator a man was armed with a gun and trying to steal her boyfriend's motorcycle.

When officers arrived, they drove into an alley and saw a man matching the description. The man was sitting on a motorcycle with a gun in his hand. As the officers were getting out of their patrol car, the man raised and pointed the gun towards officers. Both officers responded by firing their guns at the suspect. Evidence found at the scene indicated the man did fire his gun. After the shooting, the suspect dropped the gun and officers moved up to provide medical aid until the fire department arrived. The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

There were no other injuries to any community member or officers.

The handgun used by the suspect was recovered on scene. One bullet casing from the suspect's gun was also located.

Both officers involved in this incident are assigned to the Mountain View Precinct and have been with the department for six and four years respectively.

This incident is the subject of a criminal investigation to be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

It is also the subject of an administrative investigation.

Conclusions about whether the actions of the officers are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete.
