The Property Crimes Bureau investigates a variety of crimes committed against animals in partnership with the Arizona Humane Society and Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.
Common offenses investigated include:
Neglect and abandonment
Failure to provide medical care
Inflicting injury on animals
Tethering violations
Hoarding
Manner of Keeping / Disturbing the Peace with Animals
Animals confined in cars
Animal Fighting
Cockfighting
Bestiality

The Arizona Humane Society assists in investigations involving cruelty to animals and takes custody of animals seized in welfare situations. The Arizona Humane Society will pick up and transport animals at the request of officers and provide medical treatment as necessary to sick and injured animals.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control supports the Phoenix Police Department by responding to requests for stray, aggressive/vicious dogs, dog bites, and rabid animals. They are also the point of contact for questions regarding dog licensing.
