Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity and access for persons with disabilities.
What is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?
In 1990, the ADA became law that prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity and access for persons with disabilities. The city of Phoenix is committed to the ADA in our role as a public transportation provider. No one who uses Phoenix public transportation will be the subject of discrimination under the rules set forth in the ADA.
All city buses and Valley Metro light rail cars are equipped to accept passengers who use mobility devices. In addition, Phoenix offers its Dial-a-Ride service to qualified riders, who can schedule trips via phone or web.
How does Phoenix serve its ADA community through transit?
All buses and light rail vehicles are compliant with ADA guidelines and designed for accessibility by all. Buses, Dial-a-Ride and circulator vehicles are all equipped with ramps to accommodate passengers in mobility devices, and light rail trains board at-grade.

In addition, Phoenix operates a Dial-a-Ride (DAR) service available to ADA-eligible passengers. For more information about the service and how to gain eligibility, please visit
Phoenix's DAR web page.
What if I need to file an ADA compaint?
Everyone should be able to access and ride public transportation freely. However, if there is ever an instance where you or another passenger feels they’ve been discriminated against by being denied service or related reasons by a Phoenix or a Valley Metro operated transit service. To initiate a complaint investigation for a Phoenix service please call
