With more than 600 employees under its Solid Waste arm, Phoenix Public Works provides trash, recycling and other waste diversion services to more than 400,000 households. Our work culture is founded on delivering customer satisfaction, as well as continuously striving for efficiency in our operations. Hazardous items should NEVER go in your curbside container (trash or recycling). There were 12 garbage truck fires in Phoenix last year. Each fire puts solid waste equipment operators in danger, slows the collection process, harms the environment, and causes damage to heavy equipment that muist be repaired using either taxpayer or ratepayer dollars.

Truck fires are typically caused by items like batteries, electronics, chlorine/pool chemicals, hot ashes, lighters/igniters, paints/oils, and pressurized canisters. If you have any of these items, please use our Household Hazardous Waste program​ to schedule a pickup so they can be disposed of properly.
