You can help get kids reading on grade level. Here's how!

Read to Kids, Become a Volunteer

Love to read? Share your talent with children in Phoenix Activity Center sites, Phoenix Public Library's First Five Years spaces, and Phoenix Head Start classrooms. You can also become a literacy tutor with AARP Experience Corps and help a child strengthen their reading skills.

Please note that volunteers working with children will need to meet certain requirements, including successful completion of a background check (with fingerprinting). Visit Volunteer Phoenix to explore all your opportunities to support City programs and services or call 602-256-4388.

Host a Book Drive

A number of City of Phoenix programs and our partners, like the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library, can benefit from new and very gently used books. Phoenix Activity Center sites, Phoenix Head Start classrooms and other programs will use these books in activities with children and their families. Adopt a Little Free Library

Through Little Free Libraries, hundreds of books are exchanged throughout our community, helping increase access to books for our children. Little Free Libraries can be seen throughout Phoenix neighborhoods, in barber shops, everywhere and any children gather. Consider adopting a Little Free Library. Take a book, leave a book. Share the love of reading.

Event Support

Periodically, Phoenix Public Library needs additional help with specific events or activities, such as Love to Read AZ (a family reading festival) and the Library's summer reading program. We can generally accommodate larger groups of volunteers at these events (e.g., companies, volunteer organizations), and can offer 3 to 6 months notice to plan for your participation.
