Proposed Lane Changes & Improvements to the Phoenix Sonoran Bikeway

UPDATE 3/15/21

Based upon the information presented at the meeting including the traffic analysis and the community input received, the Street Transportation Department will be moving forward with the proposed changes. 

This location will receive new microsurfacing treatment as part of the Accelerated Pavement Maintenance Program​. The paving work has begun and will continue throughout March 2021 (weather permitting). 

After the paving work is complete, the proposed lane changes will be striped. The vertical protection is anticipated to be installed in late spring/early summer 2021. ​

​About the Project​

The City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department is seeking input on proposed changes to the travel lane striping on 3rd Avenue from Osborn Road to Indian School Road. The proposed improvements to the existing bicycle lanes at this location will enhance the Phoenix Sonoran Bikeway.

This location is scheduled to receive pavement treatment in Spring 2021, creating a cost-effective opportunity to change the current lane striping and improve safety and connectivity.

This project will also link to nearby projects with upgraded bicycle facilities on 3rd Avenue, improving connectivity for people riding bicycles. Learn more about those projects:

Below is the typical proposed striping layout. These plans will change slightly approaching intersections (for example, due to the addition of turn lanes). The detailed plans throughout the entire corridor are available below.
