PROJECT UPDATE - 11/6/20

Based on a detailed traffic evaluation and community input, the Street Transportation Department will not be moving forward with the traffic lane changes. Read the full project decision announcement here.

About the Project

As part of the Street Transportation Department’s core mission, we strive to improve the City’s roadways to create a safe and efficient transportation network.

The Street Transportation Department will be conducting a pilot test to evaluate a proposed traffic lane change on Osborn Road from 19th to 15th Avenues from February 10 through February 14, 2020. Traffic barricades will close the eastbound curb lane to simulate what effects the removal of a vehicle lane would have on traffic flow and safety.

This temporary closure will simulate a proposed change to reduce one eastbound vehicle lane and add bicycle lanes in both directions. This modification could have traffic calming and safety benefits. The bicycle lanes would add space between pedestrians and vehicles and the narrowed lanes could reduce speed and help guide traffic.

Upon completion of the pilot study, the Street Transportation Department will evaluate its findings as well as community feedback. A decision on permanent lane configurations will be published to this project webpage.
