The Street Transportation Department first hosted a meeting on July 21, 2021, regarding the Villa/Fillmore proposed bike boulevard upgrades. After hearing feedback from the community, the project team went back to the drawing board and expanded on the original proposal, including enlarging the area of the project.
The proposed changes were recommended during a virtual public meeting on November 23, 2021, and recorded video of the meeting is viewable on YouTube or above.
Survey
On December 4, 2021, the project team held four in-person meet-ups to connect with community members and help answer questions about the proposed changes. The meet-ups were held at these times and locations:
The map below depicts the five different locations for which the team is proposing improvements:
The goal of the project is to create a low-stress bicycling route from 7th Street to 24th Street. This corridor was designated as a bike boulevard almost a decade ago. The current project will look at upgrading the corridor to current bike boulevard standards.
The project has expanded to further create more biking structures in the area, expanding from Van Buren Street to Roosevelt Street. The team has looked at several options, which are viewable below in greater detail. Additionally, another bike project is being proposed along Fillmore Street from Central Avenue to 7th Street.
Fillmore - 7th Street to 9th Street
Villa/Fillmore - 9th Street to 20th Street; Taylor - 9th Street to 15th Street
20th Street - Van Buren to Roosevelt
Roosevelt - 20th Street to 24th Street - 9th Street to 15th Street
