EV Registrations
EV registrations are increasing and in 2022, Arizona ranked #9 among US states in plug-in electric vehicles per thousand people with 9.86.

The Transportation Electrification Action Plan identifies the goal of supporting 280,000 EVs in the city by 2030. The table below identifies a 30% compounded annual growth rate that forecasts the number of EVs in Phoenix to 2030.
City of Phoenix – EV Fleet Transitions
The City of Phoenix leads by example and is currently transitioning the light-duty fleets and some solid waste trucks, and buses in the heavy-duty fleets to electric. The TEAP has a goal of transitioning 200 fleet vehicles to EV by 2030. The table below identifies the current EVs in the fleet and on order.
EV Charging Stations
The number of EV charging ports and EV charging station locations has steadily increased in the U.S. since 2011. Between 2015 and 2020, the number of charging ports more than doubled and in 2021 alone, that number grew by more than 55%.

As of July 2023, Arizona had 1,065 publicly accessible EV charging station locations and 2,966 EV charging ports available across the state, with most of the EV charging infrastructure located in the Maricopa County area. In addition, the Arizona Department of Transportation through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program will a goal of deploying charging infrastructure every 50 miles along interstate corridors.

There are currently 616 publicly accessible EV charging ports located in Phoenix. 246 of the publicly accessible chargers are located on city owned property, located at city parks, libraries, the convention center, Sky Harbor Airport, and parking garages. The City of Phoenix has a goal of installing 500 publicly accessible chargers by 2030.
