The Water Services Department (WSD) is seeking two Project Coordinators with broad experiences in public water and wastewater infrastructure improvements driven by private developments.
Water Planning Division
This position is with the Water Planning Division Development Planning Team. The Development Planning Team includes the Development Group and the Planning Group. This position will be placed in the Development Group and reports to either a Civil Engineer III or the Development Planning Team Leader.
The position is primarily responsible for performing the following duties:
- Act as a liaison between WSD and Planning and Development Department (PDD) for water and wastewater related issues.
- Directly supervise up to two technical staff (Principal Engineering Technicians) and oversee their daily work.
- Provide technical assistance on water/wastewater technical appeals, stipulations, plan reviews, fire flows and public inquiries.
- Provide project management assistance on high-profile private development related infrastructure improvement projects.
- Provide assistance on process improvement and design standards update.
- This position is a primarily office-based requiring minimum local travel and may be eligible for a flexible work schedule and up to two days of telework each week.
Wastewater Treatment Division
The Wastewater Treatment Division is seeking a Project Coordinator to manage major construction projects and programs for the Division. The Wastewater Treatment Division consists of the 23rd Ave WWT, Cave Creek Reclamation Plant, Tres Rios Constructed Wetlands, and the 91st Ave WWT. The Project Coordinator will coordinate, direct, and manage major projects and programs for the Wastewater Treatment Division. This position, in cooperation with other Divisions and contractors, has the responsibility for coordinating and directing all functional activities within the projects and programs assigned; some work is oriented toward multi-year and some toward short-term projects.
The Project Coordinator works under the general direction of the Deputy Director and considerable independent judgment is exercised in achieving objectives. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for development of project metrics such as time, cost, and resources as well as workflow, quality, documentation, and communication within the projects and programs assigned. Duties may also include supervising work standards analysis, long range planning, audit tracking, and special projects as well as acting as a liaison to coordinate work between the Water Services Department and other City Departments or outside agencies.
Responsibilities include:
- Establishing project goals and objectives;
- Coordinating studies and construction with other affected parties;
- Developing project scopes, schedules and budgetary estimates;
- Responding to emergency repair situations;
- Analyzing operational issues and recommending solutions;
- Negotiating with contractors and/or consultants;
- Providing overall technical and contractual oversight of contractors and consultants during studies, design, and construction of wastewater collection remote facilities;
- Conducting field oversight of project activities;
- Ensuring regulatory compliance for facilities;
- Providing oversight during facility commissioning;
- Conducting warranty inspections;
- Maintaining asset registries;
- Establishing operation and maintenance requirements for new equipment and facilities;
- Providing technical assistance to operating divisions;
- Writing technical reports;
- Preparing and delivering presentations;
- Working effectively in team settings.
