Appliance Recycling

A resident can recycle their appliances by either taking them to one of Phoenix's two transfer stations or by scheduling a pick-up.

Transfer station drop-off

Appliances (Non-refrigerant) - All residential solid waste customers can drop off up to 1 ton per month (same visit) at no cost. Additional disposal fees of $55.00 per ton (minimum $40) beyond that will be assessed.

Appliances with refrigerant (containing freon) - All residential solid waste customers are allowed to drop off one (1) appliance with refrigerant at no cost per year. After that, an environmental fee of $20 per freon-containing appliance will be assessed, plus additional disposal fees of $55.00 per ton (minimum $40). To avoid being charged for refrigerant, freon must be properly removed and a certificate of removal must be provided upon arrival to the scale house. Here is a list of certified refrigerant reclaimers.

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) - All residents may drop off 2 CRTs per month at no cost. Additional disposal will cost $20 per CRT device plus disposal fees of $55.00 per ton (minimum $40).

Scheduled curbside pick-up

A resident may request a scheduled pick-up of large appliances for a fee. For a scheduled curbside pick-up:

  • Ensure all appliances are empty.
  • Refrigerators and freezers must have the attached doors, hinges, lids, glass shelves and latches removed (Arizona Revised Statutes 36-1651).
  • Secure doors with tape as a safety precaution or remove the doors completely.
  • Place empty appliances in front of property just behind the sidewalk or behind the curb if there is no sidewalk.
  • Do not place appliances in the alley or in garage/carport.

To schedule a pick-up or receive more information about this service, the resident may contact the Public Works Customer Care Center at 602-262-6251.
