The Law Department's law student externships are unpaid positions focused more on educational/learning opportunities for selected law students rather than specific work roles/functions.
The Law Department generally places six law student externs (two for the Civil Division and four for the Prosecutor's Office) per spring, summer, and fall semester—approximately 18 per year.
Externships are advertised through Arizona State University and the University of Arizona for the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Sometimes, the Law Department receives interest from out-of-state law students asking about externships, who will also be considered for the available extern positions.
Spring externships are advertised in September with interviews conducted in October. Summer/fall externships are advertised in January with interviews conducted in February.
