Job Description:
Apprentices learn to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment. They become knowledgeable in various aspects of energy conservation, medium voltage systems, airfield lighting, water/wastewater treatment operations, in both commercial and industrial applications.
Program Details:
Apprentices must successfully and satisfactorily complete all assigned classroom and equipment training and 8,000 on-the-job training (OJT) hours and minimum 900 related training instruction hours. During this period of the program, apprentices will be non-classified and paid as an Electrician apprentice. After successful completion apprentices will promote into the Electrician classification and serve a 12-month probationary period.

$26.18 / hour after 1,000 OJT hours

$27.49 / hour after 2,000 OJT hours

$28.86 / hour after 3,000 OJT hours

$30.31 / hour after 4,000 OJT hours

$31.82 / hour after 5,000 OJT hours

$33.41 / hour after 6,000 OJT hours

$35.08 / hour after 7,000 OJT hours

$36.84 / hour after 8,000 OJT hours
Starting Pay Upon Graduation $76,627
City of Phoenix will assist apprentice to obtain while on the job:

Attend day or evening classes one night every other week
-
Rotate between Aviation, Public Works and Water Department

Complete All Required Electrician Apprenticeship Training Assignment
-
Graduate the Electrician Apprenticeship Program
-
Earn State of Arizona Completion Certificate
-
Earn Department of Labor Completion Certificate
-
Promote to Electrician
Minimum Qualifications
(these are subject to change per program requirements):

Ability to read and comprehend written material at a level appropriate for the class.

Must have High School Diploma or GED at the time of hire.

Must successfully pass an
Apprentice
Aptitude Test with an 80% score or better.

Able to perceive the full range of the color spectrum.
-
Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be
required.

Able to work at heights greater than 10 feet
and move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less)
-
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
-
Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
