    Research and Data

The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture uses data and analysis to support work that ensures all Phoenix residents can engage with the arts in various ways.

We do this primarily by participating in national research, managing program evaluation, and conducting field studies. This research makes a strong case for the arts to demonstrate their economic, social, practical, and educational benefits.

    Arts and Economic Prosperity

Americans for the Arts conducted the sixth Arts & Economic Prosperity Study (AEP6) to document the economic and social benefits of the nation's nonprofit arts and culture industry. The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture joined the study on behalf of the City of Phoenix.

The study was conducted in 373 diverse communities and regions across the country, representing all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

    COVID Arts Recovery Report

An unprecedented level of federal funding was distributed to the arts and culture sector due to relief programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. In new research, SMU DataArts explores how eleven local arts agencies, including Phoenix Arts and Culture, advocated for and distributed this funding to their communities through document reviews, interviews, and qualitative data gathering. The insights gleaned demonstrate the responsive and nimble ways these agencies operated throughout the pandemic, and the common tactics related to advocacy, process, and equity across all eleven cities may point to local arts agency best practices moving forward.
