The City of Phoenix is committed to protecting and respecting the personal belongings of individuals experiencing homelessness. The Office of Homeless Solutions securely stores personal property for individuals accessing shelter services and unattended property encountered at encampments.
How The City Stores Property
Property Storage While Accessing Services
When the City of Phoenix opens or funds new shelters, it ensures there is ample storage to accommodate the belongings that an individual or family staying at that shelter may have. OHS also partners with Key Campus to provide a place for unsheltered individuals to store their property while accessing shelter services. Individuals who accept services can store their belongings for as long as needed and can access their stored possessions upon request.
Unattended Property Storage
OHS also oversees a program for unattended property citywide. The City provides an initial notification, giving individuals 24 hours to remove their property. If the property is not removed after at least 24 hours, a second notification will be left at the encampment that the property has been stored. The notification provides a phone number to call to retrieve property and the storage bin number. Individuals have 45 days to claim property that is stored.
