District 7 - Councilmember Anna Hernandez

    Councilmember Anna Hernandez

Councilmember Anna Hernandez, a Phoenix native and first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrants, built a career in banking, specializing in residential and commercial lending. Her path to public service began after her younger brother, Alex, was killed by Phoenix police in 2019 while experiencing a mental health crisis. The loss of her father to COVID in 2021, after being forced back to work, deepened her commitment to advocacy.

In 2022, Anna was elected State Senator for Legislative District 24, serving as ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, a member of the Senate Elections Committee, co-chair of the bicameral housing workgroup, and chair of the Arizona Legislative Latino Caucus. She delivered bipartisan results on affordable housing, reproductive rights, mental health, community safety, and police accountability while staying true to her values.

Choosing not to seek re-election to the Senate, Anna ran for Phoenix City Council District 7 in 2024, winning outright with 53% of the vote. She was inaugurated on April 21, 2025.

She remains focused on securing critical resources and improving conditions for those most impacted by systemic issues. Anna is deeply rooted in her community, driven by justice, and unafraid to fight for what’s right—even when it’s unpopular.
