The purpose of the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System is to provide uniform, consistent, and equitable statewide retirement programs for those who have been entrusted to our care. Sworn public safety members are covered under the State of Arizona's Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS).

The City of Phoenix Employees' Retirement System (COPERS) is dedicated to administering a retirement plan for past, current, and future City of Phoenix employees that prudently invests plan assets and delivers comprehensive support to meet the needs of COPERS' members and their beneficiaries.

Things to Remember...
Retirement Timing
Effective January 1, 2016, employees wishing to retire are required to file their Application for Retirement with COPERS 14 or 30 calendar days prior to the date of retirement.
- Rule of 80 or 87 – 14 calendar days
- Age 60 with 10 years – 30 calendar days
- Age 62 with five years – 30 calendar days

COPERS' Retiree Benefit Payments
COPERS' retiree benefit payments for December 2023 were processed on January 1, 2024. Transaction processing schedules are determined by each financial institution and will vary. For direct deposit transactions, please check with your financial institution for their processing schedule for transactions received on a nonbusiness day.
