    Housing for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

    ​​The Housing Department is dedicated to helping local seniors continue living an active and fulfilling life during their retirement years. Seniors have a variety of housing choices: 55+ communities, 62+ communities, disabled communities, and family communities.

    City-owned and City-managed Senior Communities

    The Housing Department has three senior apartment communities that are city-owned and city-managed. All three properties serve seniors 62 or older and persons with disabilities.They are located near bus routes, shopping centers, grocery stores, senior centers, parks, hospitals and pharmacies. These communities are specially designed to provide comfortable living for elderly residents. The city of Phoenix does not provide assisted living; however, residents are welcome to secure their own assistance when medically necessary.

    Do I Qualify for Senior/Disabled Housing?

    Applicants must be elderly (62 years of age or older) or disabled with no more than two persons in the family. Criminal background checks will be performed on all applicants.  They must also have an acceptable rental history, and not owe any money to any assisted housing program.

    Priority is given to elderly applicants (62 years of age or older) on the wait list. If no elderly applicants are on the list, the next priority is given to disabled near-elderly applicants, aged 50 to 61. If no near-elderly applicants are on the wait list, units will be offered to non-elderly disabled applicants.​
