On Saturday, April 12, community members and City officials gathered to celebrate the highly anticipated grand opening of Farmland Park, a new neighborhood park near Laveen. The event marked a milestone for the City of Phoenix’s efforts to bring more outdoor recreation and parks to the area. Farmland Park is the second of three parks planned in Phoenix/Laveen by 2025, following the opening of Harvest Park last year.
The name Farmland Park pays tribute to Laveen’s rich agricultural roots, which have long defined the area’s character and community. Once home to thriving dairy farms and cotton fields, Laveen’s farmland heritage is celebrated through the naming of this new community recreational space.
Developed with the guidance of a steering committee and shaped by the input of local residents through surveys and community meetings, Farmland Park was created by the community for the community. Despite facing setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, the master planning process persisted, ensuring the community had a voice every step of the way.
"We’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of yet another park in the Phoenix/Laveen area,” Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Farmland Park provides an important community gathering space with first-class amenities, including sport courts with lighting, a great playground, and a FitPHX walking loop all with a beautifully landscaped backdrop.”
"The opening of Farmland Park today is a reflection of the vision we have for District 7 and Laveen—vibrant, accessible, and full of opportunity,” District 7 Councilwoman Carlos Galindo-Elvira said. “We're excited to provide a space where families can gather, children can play, and everyone can experience the beauty of the outdoors."
