Update as of March 6, 2023
The Cesar Chavez Community Center is nearing completion, and we can't wait to share this amazing center with you! Right now, the Parks and Recreation Department is putting the final touches on the community center. The outdoor movie theater has been installed as well as the lobby room complete with a pool table, air hockey table and and foosball table.
The department is actively preparing for the grand opening by installing a Cesar Chavez dedication plaque and training our current team members.

The City of Phoenix is excited for the upcoming grand opening of the Cesar Chavez Community Center! Some latest updates include the installation of kitchen cabinets, the upstairs balcony and completion of the north courtyard. Stay tuned for more grand opening updates!

The Cesar Chavez Community Center staff has been offering programs out of the Chavez Library while the construction of the community center is on-going. This has included programs such as Kids Adventures for ages 3-5, Take a Hike Do it Right for ages 6-12, Kickin' it @ Chavez for ages 4-5 and an Educational Mother-Baby program for new/expecting mothers. We are excited for future programs this Fall!

The Cesar Chavez Community Center team is working hard towards the completion of the project. Some recent activities that took place included: completion of the gymnasium equipment such as basketball hoops, court divider, fitness area windowpanes and installation of the gymnasium floor. Some outdoor milestones include: installation of the outdoor movie screen and HVAC system. The Cesar Chavez Community Center team is bringing
youth programs to the Cesar Chavez Library. Please check the Cesar Chavez Library webpage for available classes and dates.

Mayor Kate Gallego, District 7 Councilmember Michael Nowakowski and District 8 Councilmember Carlos Garcia joined a small group of community members and city staff for a ceremonial groundbreaking event in Cesar Chavez Park. Construction of the 34,000-square-foot community center is
scheduled to begin in October and be completed by fall 2021.
