About the Data Privacy Office (DPO)
The Data Privacy Office at the City of Phoenix is responsible for assisting Departments with data privacy compliance by overseeing the collection, storage, and use of personal data, the safeguarding of sensitive information, and acting as a central point of contact for privacy concerns. Our team fosters a culture of data privacy within the City, with the aim of protecting individuals' privacy rights.
Some of our key functions include:
- Monitoring changes in privacy laws and regulations and engaging in regular reviews of data processing activities to make sure these are carried out in compliance with these laws.
- Upholding the City’s residents’ rights over how their personal data is handled.
- Creating and implementing data privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines for the City.
- Conducting risk assessments to identify potential privacy risks associated with data processing and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Assisting the City’s Departments in responding to data breaches, notifying affected individuals, and taking necessary corrective actions.
- Imparting employee training, educating employees about data privacy policies and their responsibilities regarding data handling.
